Perched atop Cobbitty’s hill, ‘The Base’ is an outstanding contemporary dwelling that respectfully integrates into the expansive greenery of its stunning setting. The architectural vision centred around capitalising on the expansive views, demanded generous glazing, but the Cobbitty climate of high 30s in the Summer and winter lows of 6-8 degrees – necessitated exceptional thermal performance. Interior Designer and The Block Judge,Darren Palmer takes us on a journey of his contemporary Bondi Oasis. For a home that was originally quite dark that faces north, Darren was besotted with the amount of light, comfort and efficiency the ComfortEDGE Series 759 Sliding Door offers. “This opening is one of the most important openings in the entire project.”

Nestled among the breathtaking landscapes of the Nattai National Park in the serene Southern Highlands of NSW, lies an architectural beauty by AO Design Studio: Woodlands. The design intent was to create a spacious and ‘open’ home for our clients, reflecting their move from the shores and glistening sunrises of Bondi to the verdant expanses of the Southern Highlands. The home’s orientation takes cues from the northern outlook of the existing rural homestead. Millenium Windows and Doors incorporated Series 424 Double Glazed CentreGLAZE™ Fixed Highlights throughout, taking advantage of the 7m of northern sun the structure invites into the core of the home. The striking Series 618 MAGNUM™ Sliding Doors offer an uninterrupted 180-degree view from the open plan living, dining, and kitchen areas. The entire home flows seamlessly, thanks to the flush thresholds of AWS Windows and Doors, which pair perfectly with their FlowTHRU™ draining system. Nestled on a rural plot with stunning northern water vistas, an existing 1980’s dwelling reconstructed into a new, contemporary single-story residence. The brief called for a modern, one-of-a-kind home that would captivate and cater to the family’s needs, including mobility considerations. The design’s distinctiveness lies in its innovative use of glass, which fosters openness, light, mood, privacy, and texture, creating visually appealing spaces. Granville Heritage House was the canvas she imagined, ‘‘We loved the home as soon as we walked in”. It was a pale blue timber cottage in its original form with three bedrooms and one bathroom. The existing house wasn’t big enough to accommodate a family of three generations. It was in poor condition and quite a small space, Anna from Studio Urbo was willing to take a risk.

Situated in regional Victoria, the Euroa house embraces all that nature has to offer, with the home fitting right into its unique landscape.
